This short trip gives you the chance to experience a real Mongolian Adventure in the desert and the diverse steppe and mountain landscapes of Mongolia. Bayangobi (meaning rich gobi) has a completely unique ecology, with mountains, sand dunes and freshwater marshlands! The wildlife is abundant and you are sure to see many birds of prey in the Khugno Khan National Park. Ride a camel, climb on sand dunes and discover the hidden ruins of a 17th century monastery. You can also see the world’s only remaining truly wild horses at the world famous Khustai National Park. Have an adventure in the Terelj National Park, a beautiful area of forests, rivers and mountains before seeing the majestic 40m tall Chinggis Khan Equestrian Statue.

PROGRAM: National Parks Adventure

Day 1 – Collection from your home and drive to Bayangobi sand dunes. On the way you may like to see a demonstration of nomadic life, including felt making. At the sand dunes try camel riding and climbing on the dunes. Meet your host family and help them herd their animals for the night. Overnight next to a nomadic family. Upgrade to ger camp available during summer. 

Day 2 – Drive to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital city of the Mongol Empire. It is now the site of one of the largest Buddhist Monasteries in Mongolia, Erdene Zuu.  Visit the Kharkhorin museum and explore the monastery. You can also see the Three Empires Monument, which gives you a bird’s eye view of the Orkhon valley, where three empires are said to have come together to become one. Return East after lunch to the Khogno Khan National Park for a climb up to the hidden Monastery ruins and hike in the mountains through the unique juniper shrubs and search for wildlife such as steppe eagle and deer.

Day 3 – Today you can visit the Khustai National Park to see what is considered to be the world’s only remaining wild horses. At Khustai, head on into the protected zone and start the safari to the mountain where the Przewalski’s Horse can be found. The National Park is teeming with wildlife including marmot and red deer. Take a short hike to get closer to these amazing wild animals. Opportunities for more hiking in this area.

You will arrive at Terelj National Park in the early evening. See the majestic Turtle Rock and visit the Aryabal Meditation Temple for a peaceful walk up into the mountain and spectacular views of the National Park. Overnight at a ger camp, with western facilities and electricity, shared ger.

Day 4 – Enjoy a 1-2 hour horse ride through the beautiful National Park. This landscape is similar to the Northern Mongolian “Taiga” and is rich in flora and fauna. Finish the horse ride and enjoy a traditional BBQ lunch, before starting your optional afternoon activity**. In the late afternoon do some hiking and explore more of the National Park. 

Day 5 – In the late morning visit the Chinggis Khan Equestrian Statue. Learn about Mongolia’s fierce hero and the legacy he left behind. Try on traditional costumes and go to the top of the 40m tall statue for photo opportunities.  Return to Ulaanbaatar in the afternoon and enjoy a traditional song and dance performance (highly recommended). Paragliding is also available on this day!

Afternoon activities for day 4 can include one or two of the following:

  1. Longer horse trek through the beautiful forest and up into the mountain valleys.
  2. Kayaking or rafting on the peaceful Terelj and Tuul rivers (May-September, subject to availability).
  3. Hiking with our siberian husky dogs through the beautiful forests and mountain terrain (April-October only).
  4. Dog sledding on the frozen river (winter only)

Tandem Paragliding is available as an add on for day 4 or 5 and is an additional 60 USD per person. It is subject to availability depending on the weather conditions.


English speaking guide and transportation by private vehicle throughout, accommodation and meals, all entrance fees and taxes, activities as mentioned, drinking water. Accommodation can be in ger camps or with nomadic family homestays.
