Why waste your Spring Break in Ulaanbaatar when you can go on a Mountain and Desert Adventure and see a waterfall made of ice? We are organizing this short adventure with huge discounts just for teachers working in Mongolia. We know how hard you’ve been working and you deserve some adrenaline packed excitement to rejuvenate your spirit for the next semester.
Dates: March 13-17, 2017 (5 days)
- See the frozen orkhon waterfall. Perhaps have a go at ice climbing if you dare!
- Stay with nomadic families and meet their new baby sheep and goats.
- Ride a fluffy winter camel over snow sprinkled sand dunes.
- See Mongolia’s vast and varied landscapes, a little bit of everything from rivers to mountains to desert.
- Experience the heart warming hospitality of Mongolia’s nomadic herders.

PROGRAM: Spring Break Desert and Ice Wall Adventure
Day 1 – Collection from your home and drive to Bayangobi sand dunes. Try camel riding and climbing on the dunes. Meet your host family and help them herd their animals for the night. Overnight next to a nomadic family.
Day 2 – After breakfast continue West to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital city of Mongolia. Visit the monks in the Erdene Zuu Monastery and see their chanting mantra ceremony. Stop off at the Kharkhorin museum and climb to the top of the Three Empires Monument for great views of the surrounding Orkhon valley. Option to horse ride along the orkhon valley. Overnight with local family.
Day 3: Option to rise early to see the monks morning ceremony before heading to the spectacular frozen Orkhon waterfall. Try your hand at ice climbing! Overnight in a ger next to a herder family. Help them round up their baby animals and join the family for a tasty dinner. Campfire and stargazing in the evening.
Day 4: Say goodbye to your hosts and return east to Khugno Khan mountain and the ruins of the Uvgun Khiid Monastery. Scramble to the top of the mountain to visit the ruins and meet the female monks who have been the guardians of the monastery for generations. Overnight in a ger next to a nomadic family.
Day 5: After breakfast optional morning hike, before returning to Ulaanbaatar. If you’d like to try tandem paragliding, you will pass some great spots for flying on this day!
OUR ADVENTURE INCLUDES:
English speaking guide and transportation by private vehicle throughout, accommodation in ger next to family or family run guesthouse for 4 nights, all entrance fees and taxes, meals, 1 camel ride, 1 horse ride.
